Prior to his departure to Florida in 2005, G Alan Stewart was an active participant in the Raleigh arts community. Stewart founded the FeatherNetwork in cooperation with downtown property owners to host a series of contemporary exhibitions of emerging artists as well as a year-long gallery/studio project featuring monthly shows. He has donated numerous works to charitable art auctions, including the Triangle AIDS Alliance Works of Heart auction and the breast cancer research funds, Keep A Breast Fundraiser. His work has been included in many solo and group exhibitions throughout the Southeastern United States. He has received numerous awards including the United Arts Council’s Emerging Artist Grant (2001).

As an educator, Stewart has worked with court-involved and at-risk youth in the creation of large scale murals. His teaching philosophy focuses on creative problem solving, group confidence, and a positive peer culture instructional technique. In 2003, he attended a Fieldwork Facilitator training workshop for performing artists and adapted the method to the visual artists in the Raleigh area, and later into his teaching technique for adult students.

He grew up in eastern North Carolina and studied art at Lenoir Community College and Savannah College of Art and Design in Georgia. Stewart currently maintains his studio and residence in Raleigh, NC. For more, visit his website.
